How do we guide people on the path and speak with them?
And how will I speak when I need to set apart my speech because it is important and not a trivial matter?
I must preserve the ability to speak to those who need my guidance, and yet, how will I do this if I constantly use my tongue for speaking? Am I not heard when I refrain from speech?
If from here we learn the value of speech, we must understand the entire verse: the one who needs my guidance is precisely the one who is in the wilderness. Yet the question remains: does a person need to hear my speech, or can I remain silent?
Regarding silence, one must understand that silence is not the same as muteness. Muteness occurs when there is no desire for speech, whereas silence is a way to speak without speaking, as has been demonstrated.
Another matter:
Life itself is like a wilderness; it is something great but can also be a little terrifying. “Terrifying” in Aramaic refers to fire. The Gemara says that there are three things a person can observe endlessly: fire, water, and a person in action.
Just like fire, when looking at a person in action, one must see whether they are acting like a waterfall at that moment, allowing us to approach them, or whether they are acting like a flame, requiring us to maintain a safe distance.Translation to English:
